We were delighted to return as exhibitors at EUCROF26, that took place February 1-3 in the vibrant city of Amsterdam! It’s always a pleasure to attend the EUCROF Annual Conference, and this year’s edition is yet another one for the books. We connected with many partners at our booth and had the opportunity to take the stage to give an expert talk on running global medical device studies.

Running global medical device studies with local feel: Lessons learned from transatlantic (EU-US) collaboration

Important differences exist in setting up clinical investigations with medical devices in the US and EU, due to the diversity in regulatory frameworks, requirements, and local differences in clinical practice. Sponsors with experience primarily in US-based clinical investigations often underestimate the nuances of initiating studies in one, or multiple, European countries, resulting in delays and compliance risks.
Running efficient global medical device studies demands both strategic coordination and local flexibility. This is especially true when setting up studies in parallel, across the US and the EU.
In this presentation, we explored key challenges and lessons learned at the intersection of regulatory, operational, and strategic collaboration. We highlighted how a European CRO in this situation can act as a true strategic partner, not just a service provider, by guiding sponsors through the complexities of international studies. Additionally, we discussed common challenges, such as differences in ethics committee and competent authorities‚ processes, and their interpretation of requirements, and maintaining consistent study quality across geographies.

Kudos to the organizing EUCROF Team, and thanks to everyone who joined us at our booth and attended our talk on running global medical device studies.
Thank you Antoinette van Dijk for hosting the session, and Cécile van der Heijden, Bianca Lutters and Liesbeth Coteur for the expert talks.
If you missed it, don’t hesitate to reach out for a recap!
